La manufacture de porcelaine de Nyon est fondee en 1781. Elle sera la derniere a voir le jour en Europe. Sa production s'inscrit alors pleinement dans l'air du temps, dans le style neo-classique, et avec des modeles calques sur ceux des manufactures parisiennes. Au niveau de la matiere elle-meme, Nyon peut rivaliser en finesse avec la blancheur des porcelaines francaises grace a un approvisionnement en kaolin livre directement de Limoges. La qualite de la ceramique est soulignee par son decor qui laisse le centre de l'objet libre de tout motif afin de souligner la blancheur transparente de la matiere autant que l'absence de defauts de cuisson. La manufacture de porcelaine de Nyon saura s'adapter a sa clientele, composee tant de notables et de patriciens locaux que de bourgeois bernois, vaudois et genevois. Ce type de clientele, denue du soutien d'une Cour, aura raison d'elle en 1813. En effet, les tourmentes revolutionnaires puis les guerres napoleoniennes entraineront la disparition de cette industrie couteuse et aux rendements aleatoires. Le batiment lui-meme, pourtant, reste en activite. A la manufacture de porcelaine succede une faiencerie qui demeure jusqu'en 1979, perpetuant ainsi les motifs dits ?« Vieux Nyon ?». Nouveau livre.

Joost Marechal (1911-1971) beheerste meesterlijk de techniek van keramiek en glasramen. Hij realiseerde een artistiek hoogstaand oeuvre van sobere vazen en schalen waarin het eenvoudige silhouet verrijkt wordt met subtiele glazuren van eigen makelij. Daarnaast ontwierp hij talrijke stukken ter herinnering aan feestelijke gebeurtenissen in een persoonlijke tekenstijl waarin hij telkens het unieke van de persoon of de gelegenheid accentueerde. De glasramen evolueerden van figuratieve beelden naar sprekende gestileerde voorstellingen tot wonderlijke explosies van abstracte kleuren. Na het prille begin in Brugge vestigde hij zich in 1946 in Eeklo. Daar ontwikkelde hij zich tot een pionier van de moderne kunstkeramiek in Vlaanderen. Op het einde van de jaren 1960 creeerde hij steeds meer zuivere artistieke sculpturen: expressieve vrouwelijke lichamen, indrukwekkende bustes en koppen. De natuur bood hem tevens het materiaal voor de creatie van plantaardige grillige vormen. Joost Marechal, keramist en glazenier besteedt aandacht aan de twee pijlers van zijn werk: keramiek en glasschilderkunst en toont tal van nooit eerder gepubliceerde creaties
