Patrick Vertenten (1964, Sint-Gillis-Waas) is een kunstenaar die schildert vanuit het hart. Thanks to diffuse light and subtle brushstrokes - comparable to the shallow focus in cinematography - the Belgian artist's oeuvre is bathed in nostalgia and melancholy. Inspired by film, literature, poetry, and music, Vertenten recovers existing images from various sources, which he transforms into a completely new character study of life and humanity: loneliness, weakness, intimacy, desire and security. The viewer, touched by the beauty of the painting, is invited to explore the image in its new context. The heavy, dark tones in the image correspond to the weight of life. They come alive and flicker in contrast to the painterly highlights that function as symbolic points of light.
